How Often Should You Wash Your Face?
This is an extremely common question we get asked more than a few times so we have decided to address it in an entire blog post to ensure we answer this properly.
The answer to this question is a little more complex than a simple “once or twice a day” and as a skin care lover, eager to learn, we wanted to give you all the info you need and deserve.
So dig into our latest read where we share how often you should wash your face and what kind of products we recommend for best results.
Is twice a day really necessary?
We’re told to wash our face twice a day, in the morning and evening, but if you’re using the wrong kinds of products, then twice a day may be too much.
Too many conventional cleansers still contain synthetic surfactants and other harsh ingredients that can strip the natural oils from your skin, leaving it dry and potentially putting your skin’s lipid barrier at risk.
When your lipid barrier is impaired, your skin will no longer be able to retain moisture and you then face all sorts of skincare issues from accelerated aging to breakouts as your skin tries to compensate for the lack of oil, often by overproducing sebum.
Our best advice here is to do your research and only opt for products that are 100% natural and free from synthetic toxins.
Choose products formulated with oils and plant-based botanicals that will help to maintain your skin’s delicate moisture balance.
Learning to read skincare labels will really help you on your skincare journey.
Why once a day is enough
Yep, we said it!
Once a day really is enough, unless your skin is incredibly oily.
Our complexions are still clean in the morning and a rinse with lukewarm water before applying our creams and makeup for the day is often enough.
If you want a little more, then instead of washing your face in the morning, why not apply a hydrating, all natural facial spritz to a cotton pad and gently wipe your face to help remove any excess grime. We love this tip because our skin feels clean without feeling stripped or dry.
What’s a double cleanse?
We are glad you asked!
An oil cleanse involves using an all natural plant-based oil like coconut or avocado oil to dissolve your makeup and dirt at the end of a long day and then using a hot wash cloth or cotton pads to wipe it off.
You can then follow up with your natural, hydrating cleanser or you can go in with your oil again and skip the cleanser all together.
Oil cleanses have all sorts of fantastic benefits and you’ll be amazed at the positive changes that occur in your skin when you do this regularly!
Always be sure to follow up any cleanse with one of our beautiful all natural moisturizers to enjoy smooth, silky skin all day long!
